How Judd’s Quail All Began

This is how it all started…

In the Spring of 2024, my wife asked me if I would like to get started with quail. “Quail?”, I thought. “What would I do with quail?” Our mutual friend had just found out his wife was pregnant, was looking for a new job, and needed to get a few things off his plate. He was selling his birds and his quail pen and was looking for a buyer. I contacted my friend about his quail and was quickly intrigued. I learned that a single coturnix quail would lay upwards of 300 eggs per year. I learned that quail eggs hatch more quickly than chicken eggs. I learned that quail could lay eggs as early as 6 weeks and that quail reached full sexual maturity at 8 weeks.

Based on everything I learned, I realized that quail are one of the best birds for self-sustainability. The birds are prolific layers, mature quickly, reproduce quickly, and are a fantastic source of lean, healthy meat. As time went on, I read more and learned more. I hatched my own eggs. I dressed out my own birds. I fixed quail for dinner and the meat was wonderful. Needless to say, I was not disappointed with my investment in quail and decided to make coturnix quail one of the primary focuses of my homestead,

Before I got started with Coturnix quail, I legitimately knew nothing more about quail other than I would periodically see them at a poultry auction. Just a few short months later and I have my own business based entirely around these wonderful birds. If you want to learn more about Coturnix Quail, please subscribe to my page. Periodically I will be sharing information through videos and blog posts that will help to keep you informed about what’s going on with Judd’s Quail and with Coturnix Quail in general.
